star trek
star trek, the 2009 film, was rather enjoyable. a cringe enducing ending, which was inevitable i suppose, but enjoyable.
however, i was not enjoying the choice of simon pegg for scotty. i discovered, when listening to that bastion of scottish culture “off the ball”, that martin compston (sweet sixteen/red road/monarch of the glen…) auditioned for the part. i don’t care how...
gramps
i just, for the first ever time, noticed that at 3.41 of “he’s simple, he’s dumb, he’s the pilot”, by grandaddy, theres a really, very quiet sample of the main synth line of “am 180” by grandaddy.
which would suggest that the crazy messed up noise that follows is a mega manipulated sample of the same synth line!
it’s so exciting. i would like to...
craig levein, if it must..
it seems the sfa are suddenly to offer the post to craig levein, and it doesn’t appear that gordon smith’s recent assertion that they were going to take their time over an appointment has been adhered to. it would have been interesting to entertain the prospect of dan petrescu, or other, more experienced types from across the global managerial list a little longer, perhaps even conduct...
the old bell, edinburgh
an interesting pub, more for it’s toilet arrangements than anything else.
instead of marking the doors male and female, they are marked kings and queens. the idea of a toilet for straight men, and then a combined toilet for women and flamboyant, gay men seems humourous at first, but then the more you think on it, kind of homophobic.
two things
or, on shopping in lidl
every sunday i walk the same route to lidl, purchase largely the same products, and the following frustrations are born of this tedium.
firstly, to condemn the fool who scrawled “jesus is lord” on the menu outside the mosque kitchen on west nicholson st. regardless of whether they are a late night reveller with intoxicating substances swirling around their...
music is not a competition:

scottish album of the decade, part two
without meaning to beat on the skinny - i hear it was supposed to be a public vote, but the presence of biffy clyro’s puzzle in lieu of their three previous records, as well as such luminaries as dead or american would appear to dispute that - i remain unconvinced by their top 50. i agree that “100 broken windows” by idlewild was probably a fair shout, and it’s good to see my personal vote, arab...
